    Seattle Post-Intelligencer
Columbia City offers plenty to chew on - by Penelope Corcoran

"... Owner Aklilu Welemichael immigrated to Seattle in 1984 and opened Fasica 10 years later. Known for its hearty portions, vegetarian-friendly cuisine and inexpensive prices, Fasica is popular with an edgier, younger, more Capitol Hill-looking crowd. I find the food in this high-ceilinged, VFW hall-like restaurant slightly more delicate -- dare I say lighter? -- than what I expect from an Ethiopian kitchen. But don't get me wrong: Wrap anything, even iceberg lettuce, in sponge-rubbery injera and you've got filling, with a capital F.

Hours: 5-10 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday; noon-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday; 5-10 p.m. Sunday. Closed Monday. Prices: meat entrees $6.99-$9.99; vegetarian entrees $5.99-$8.99; sides $4.50-$6.99; Ethiopian coffee ceremony $15. Best bets: Yedoro wat (chicken in hot pepper sauce with hard-boiled eggs) $7.25; Doro tibs (cubes of chicken sauteed with tomatoes) $7.55; Yebeg wot (lamb in red pepper sauce) $8.50; vegetarian combination $8.99. Local and imported bottled beer, limited wine by the glass; basic mixed drinks. Designated smoking area. Reservations accepted. Good sound level when there's no live music; call for schedule. No obstacles. Kid-friendly. Free street parking...." >>more
