Hoo-boy, the whining I had to listen to when lining up companions for dinner at Addis Abeba. OK, so Ethiopian food doesn't yet carry the cachet of Thai or the familiarity of Mexican. It's the one cuisine that can still pass for exotic among diners who have eaten through a culinary map of most continents.
Well, let's get over it. There are several Ethiopian restaurants to choose from in Chicago and Addis Abeba is a good place to start.

You can get just about any type of cuisine within a five-block radius in Wrigleyville, from the usual fare to the downright exotic stuff. Addis Abeba is one of those places where a lot of people are curious about, but not adventurous enough, to dig in. Diners truly dig in at this authentic Ethiopian restaurant as fingers, not forks, are used to eat the many selections from the menu. Spicy platters of meat and vegetables (a highly recommended spot for vegetarians) are served with a rice-like starch. To get an authentic experience, diners are encouraged to sit on oversize pillows as well as share from the platters. Light ethnic music floats though the air, and though Addis Abeba is pretty laid back, loud noises from the bustling street occasionally interrupt.
