McDonald's advertising campaign targets Denver minorities

"... Geta Asfaw, who owns four restaurants and is former president of the Black McDonald's Owners Association, said he'd like to see more programs for children.

"We want to give more emphasis in terms of education, giving scholarships to minority teenagers," he said.

Asfaw said the campaign is the minority owners' way of sharing their success with the community, but he also views it as mutually beneficial: Blacks and Hispanics gain through whatever programs and events are held and see McDonald's as a benefactor. That increases their brand loyalty, solidifying and, it is hoped, increasing market share for the chain.

It was important, Asfaw said, to hire a minority agency to handle the campaign.

"They're part of the minority community," he said. "They take the market very seriously. We're very pleased with them. What will happen six months from now, I don't know." ..." read full
