Moya' s special appeal is that it adeptly blends 'the traditional' with 'the contemporary' in both its ambience as well as the presentation of its delectable menu of authentic Ethiopian dishes.

    In Amharic, the lingua franca of Ethiopia, 'moya' is the term used for 'skill' or 'expertise'. Although most often used specifically with reference to one's culinary skills and excellence in home-making 'moya' can also generally refer to proficiency pertaining to any craft, art-form or profession.

    '' The Emory-Clairmont neighborhood's growing reputation as a hot spot for kitchens dishing out eclectic, worldly flavors is perfectly personified by Moya, an Ethiopian eatery that opened in early 2004. A mixture of native artifacts, soft lighting and curved chairs set the restaurant's upscale yet casual mood. An oak bar, a charming patio and a fireplace complete the relaxing ambiance. But it's the menu of traditional Ethiopian cuisine -- beef, lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes -- that sets Moya apart. If you're unfamiliar with Ethiopian food, your best bet is a meat or veggie sampler platter. Some popular meat dishes include spiced, minced beef served on a bed of banana leaves and spicy chicken stew accompanied by hard-boiled eggs. Veggie selections include shiro, a traditional stew made of ground legumes, herbs and spices, and spicy collard greens paired with a golden split-pea stew. All meals are served with homemade injerra, a soft, 'crepe-like' sourdough bread.
