Forty percent of the City of Maribyrnong's residents, including Footscray, were born outside of Australia. A great part of the population comes from over 135 different countries, speaking over 80 languages. Five thousand people of African descent live in the Footscray region and visitors to the area can enjoy their culture by sampling some of the fantastic local restaurants.

Best know locally as 'Leila', Almaz also cooks traditional Ethiopian dishes for her Abyssinia café. She mightn't be able to find all the ingredients she's used to but her friends love the results.
