Araya along with Ernest McCaleb founded Sheba Te'j in the early 1990's at the time as the only winery of commercial Ethiopian Tej wine outside of Ethiopia. The winery coincidentally was the only African American owned winery in America as well.
Araya now presides over Heritage Wines that markets 3 Ethiopian Tej - Honey Wines worldwide and 2 wines made from honey. Heritage Wines also brews Ethiopian Beer called "Addis Beer".
